I have the 500GB cause we watch Movies off that PS3, but the 320GB I got Nyx is twice the  Hard Drive Space of the 'largest' PS3 for a fraction of the cost. Plus you can buy a StarTech SAT2510U2 InfoSafe 2.5-Inch USB/SATA Hard Drive Enclosure  [$21.55 ea  and use your 'old' drives as your back up drives...

Check out these deals!
Lu...did you mean to say 500 GB?
[Good Catch, I corrected my entry:-)]-Lu
Also..one thing to mention if you plan on using your old PS3 drives as back up drives...you'll need to use a third party software like SwissKnife to Format it FAT 32...Windows XP will not recognize the drive with the propritery OS and has a problem partitioning Large drives..
Kalel,
I was just passing on a suggestion I made to Draco earlier to everyone else.
I got the 500GB and I got Nyx the $320 for $75 [includes a 3 year warranty]as we use My PS3 for family movie viewing.
I didn't Mention the formatting aspect as different OS have different requirements and the PS3 already 'recognizes' them and can format them as well. [We plan on using them to back up the critical files of the PS3 with the PS3's "built-in" backup/restore function. But I'm sure people with XP appreciate your suggestion.
Lu, So you were able to straight off connect the old PS3 drives to your PS3? If that works..kewl...thing is if you ever wanted to connect those drives to a pc then you'll be SOL and have to format at that point....why not do it in the beginning before you have stuff on there...just a suggestion my friend....work smarter not harder lol...also..you forgot about telling them the horrors of the soft screws....hahaha....needle nose pliers are the cure for strippage....good luck upgraders!!!
I really need to do that, i have the 60GB, and I've had to delete the movies and games i had on there to make room for more things which always sucks... also, I've heard alot of bad things about replacing the HDD because people lose data and things like that... i know thats what backing the data up is for but still.. any words of wisdom before i get too deep?
Kalel, I agree with the versatility of formatting your drives first, I haven't swapped Nyx's Disk out yet & I haven't rec'd the Drive 'cases' yet, so I wasn't really trying to create a 'How-to'guide', Just noticed the prices have come down considerably since you and I upgraded.
The web has many video walk-thru 'How-To's' Perhaps you can compile the best of them and create another entry :-) jk???

Despite what I've read to the latter, the only way I've found to move/back up data succesfully is the back up restore function. When I do this I've STILL had to 're-download some content i.e. RockBand Songs & Game Demos ...It can be tedious, but ultimately I've never 'lost' anything. I'm concerned about doing it any other way with RB2 as you can't even 'copy' the Save Game data individually.
Kalel is perhaps the best 'Go-to' person for tips and tricks as he keeps commenting good advice right here on the blog
Jo...I had a launch 60GB System and also got tired of deleting files...I also wanted to improve performance so i went with a 7200 RPM Hitatchi 200 GB 2.5 SATA drive. Lu...not trying to steal your thunder by any means...those two drives are great deals!! As far as tips...for backing up...not all game save data is able to be backed up (i.e. i lost all my Rainbow Six Vegas 2 game data)....and there is no way around redownloading PSN games/demos/addons...your personal pictures, game saves (some), movies (not purchased from PS Store)..is pretty much what you are backing up...i just used my 80GB ipod to transfer what i wantd before upgrading...the O.S. and settings are in the firmware itself...
